Featuring new works by the artist, Looking through the Water is Helen Grimm’s fifth solo show at Four Eleven. Her easily recognizable style and atmospheric subjects have been a popular constant since the opening of the gallery in 2011. Alternating primarily between landscapes and waterscapes, Grimm’s paintings consistently evoke both the physical environment and intangible spirit of Provincetown and the Cape. Her subjects, which range from sandy dunes to meticulously crafted oysters and mussels, all benefit from the natural abstraction that the elements provide. One can easily see her trees as if through a breeze and her ocean scenes naturally embrace the way waves distort that which is below.
